The theme of Brazilian exports brings a history marked by large swings. However, we observed that exports have been since the 1960s, one of the factors responsible for the country's economic growth. Therefore, the objectives of this study guided the development of a theoretical framework permeated by ahistorical reference, with the support of scholars such as Diniz,Dupas, Puga, Giambiagi and others, with a focus on exports of the footwear industry. Another objective was to survey figures for quantities and export prices to see what this means for theindustry in terms of competitiveness, productivity and profitability. The paper develops an argument that begins with a theoretical framework, through the rapidly expanding Brazilian exports, between 1968 and 1974, addressing the recession and currency crisis, the Brazilian trade and economic openness, addressing the events of the years 1990 and 2003 which led us to further description of the reengineering of the footwear industry. Finally, we treat the fluctuations in shoe exports in 2000.
