Social movements and ecological activities in Siberia

Activity of ecological movements at all difficulties makes representation of powers structures of different levels from local to central ones to correct their policy and upraises assignations for ecological aims. But the main task of these movements is formation of public opinion. Researches in opinions, orientations, behavior of different social groups, problems of ecological safety are extremely important to find the connection beetween existining public opinion, hard ecological problems and ability of science and state to control solving of them. In 1966-2009 the Sociological survey  was conducted in Tomsk region.

The following research was described; analysis level of ecological activities of population in Tomsk. To speak about ecological activity of population of Tomsk, facts show that it is not pure «institutional» problem caused by institution of industry and subjected to be solved by other institution, government, without special role of common people in this deal. To check this we turned to population about possibility of it’s participation in defense of rights for social privileged suggested for people living in 30-kilometer zone from nuclear objections. It was found that direct active participiation.

Problem of ecology is realised by the people as one of the most important ones and is stand in rating of all social problems at second place after criminality.

Version that in public awareness of Russian population ecology is percepted as institutional problem was partly confirmed. Hower, one fourth (25%) wants to personally participate in activity of public ecological initiatives, 42% answered that do not want this. It is not easy question to explain causes of low activity of population. Special research must be devoted to this question.
