This work was developed aiming to survey scientific and academic production developed by Sociology researchers in art and culture fields, contributing to institutionalizing and strengthening this segment of sociological knowledge. For this purpose, a research was performed amidst all papers presented in the two last congresses of the Brazilian Sociology Society assorted as follows: "Sociologists of the future" group, which aggregates the poster presentations by Undergraduate and Masters students; the "Working Groups", which encompass oral presentations by Masters, Doctors and Post-Docs, being criteria different for each congress, and, finally, "Round Tables", whose purpose is having the issue discussed by guests. After this research, we cross-referenced quantitative data in order to discuss the variables concerning the representation of the artistic theme in Brazilian Sociological panorama and its relation to the degree level of researchers. We further noticed, in the beginning of the quantitative portion of our work, the curious and fluid division between researches regarded as "cultural" and researches regarded as "artistic", so we could also realize and analyze the speech and heterogeneity of thought presented by researchers on the approach and conception of "Sociology of art". Therefore, we aim to offer relevant analysis on the position occupied by Sociology of art in the context of contemporary Brazilian academic research, and try to understand what are its trends for building this area of knowledge.
