This paper intends to draw parallels between the work "A century of slum" and the work of Alba Zaluar "Pig's head," by MV Bill and Jose Eduardo Soares, aiming to investigate the issue of risk related to youth in both perspectives, analyzing approximations and differences in their reflections about the competing factors for the significant fragility of young life in peripheral areas, especially with regard to the metropolitan periphery. Since the process of metropolises has intensified globally, it is an important exercise to bring up this debate for studies on the sociology of risk.
