This presentation discusses clinical sociology - a type of sociological practice - and its relation to the human rights paradigm.   Clinical sociology will be defined and the history of field (with an emphasis on developments in the United States) will be discussed.  Some of the main approaches that have been used in research and intervention in different parts of the world will be identified.  Concluding points will be made about the history, current situation and future developments in the field of clinical sociology in relation to human rights.
