This presentation focuses on United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 (Women, Peace and Security) and its mandates for men and women to include women in peacebuilding efforts.  There is a particular interest in women who are in decision-making, peacekeeping and peacemaking roles in transition countries (particularly ones emerging from autocracy). The UN Resolution "urges member States to ensure increased representation of women (in) all... mechanisms for the prevention, management, and resolution of conflict" and "to take further measures to improve women's participation during all stages of peace processes."  First, selected peace processes (including peacebuilding) will be defined and then there will be an explanation of UNSCR 1325 and its mandates regarding peacebuilding.  This will be followed by a discussion of some of the barriers women face in their societies and, finally, some examples will be provided of inclusive peacebuilding efforts in selected countries.
