Futures and Pasts in the Future of Political Sociology

Monday, 11 July 2016: 14:15-15:45
Location: Hörsaal 4C G (Neues Institutsgebäude (NIG))
RC18 Political Sociology (host committee)

Language: English

Conceptions of the future can help to shape ongoing political interactions – and outcomes – but how do “futures” interact with “pasts” in the scholarly future of political sociology? After all, a great deal of excellent work in political sociology shows how historical change and events condition political life in the present.
This discussion panel will bring together leading political sociologists whose work focuses on future-oriented analysis and/or historical analysis in order to provide an interchange of views. Can these two temporally-oriented perspectives complement and reinforce one another, or are they fundamentally at odds with one another? The panel is intended to address directly the thematic focus of the Vienna ISA Forum.

INVITED SESSION NOT OPEN FOR ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION.
