The mental health of young people is emerging as a world-wide “problem” that must be addressed. The World Health Organization and the health/social policies and frameworks of many countries position modern young lives as failing to possess mental well-being. This session calls for papers relating to emerging theories, interpretations and methods that address youth mental health through any/all of the following:

  • qualitative and ethnographic youth-attuned, visual and/or participatory methods,
  • critical analysis of the youth mental health “industry”,
  • emerging data and interpretations acorss the continuum of youth mental health,
  • new understandings of the emerging modern influences (social inequality, digital media, technology, globalization, etc) on the mental health and well-being of youth,
  • and/or investigations into problems and promises for the mental health of Aboriginal and indigenous youth.
