Changing Patterns of Professional Regulation

Abstract Submissions Closed

RC52 Sociology of Professional Groups (host committee)

Language: English

Over the last several decades patterns of professional regulation have undergone significant change. In countries where self-regulation was historically the norm, state-regulation or co-regulation has become more common. International regulatory mechanisms have developed. In some parts of the world de-regulation has occurred.
Papers in this session will explore trends and patterns in professional regulation (and deregulation) within particular professional and national contexts, as well as across national borders, and across time. In keeping with the forum theme, papers exploring the future of professional regulation, and best practices in professional regulation are also welcome.
