RC05 Racism, Nationalism and Ethnic Relations (host committee)

Language: English

On the background of the rise of right-wing populism, racist hate crime of Jews by individual Muslim extremists in European cities, institutionalised anti-Muslim racism and an ongoing contestation of the blurred boundaries between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, we feel the need to discuss more specifically to what degree anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim racisms evolve and change in and across transformed transnational contexts.
Accordingly, this session invites speakers who engage with the complexity of the aforementioned forms of group hate crimes, their possible interfaces, or different rooting. Papers could be empirically or theoretically looking at emanations in Europe as well as in other parts of the world. Further, reflections on transnational fundamentalisms and how digital media is utilized to spread anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim racisms, are particularly welcomed.
