RC16 Sociological Theory (host committee)

Language: English

This session is dedicated to examining how past, present, or emerging social theories have helped define the objectives, demands, and strategies of social change around the world.
Over time, movements for social change have been inspired by modernity, modernization theory, postmodern deconstruction, postcolonialism, feminism, and so on. For example, in the 1990s and after the collapse of the Soviet Bloc, theories of civil society inspired movements of social change in Eastern Europe and elsewhere in the world.
We invite papers that offer concrete examples of how these theories have contributed to change. Conversely, we welcome papers that show how these theories themselves have changed in action.
