Environmental sociology has been mainly focusing on human disasters as industrial pollution. However especially under the effects of climate change or in case of huge disasters like the 3.11 disaster and severe nuclear accidents, clarifying between human disasters and natural disasters has been getting meaningless.
Environmental risks, disaster prevention and building a more resilient community are new topics for environmental sociologists. How can municipal government, environmental NGOs, industry and general citizens collaborate in order to improve public awareness on these issues? This session will stress discussions based on a variety of practices and experiences at local community level and multi-level dimensions.
