Session Type: Oral

The 21st century presents complex challenges regarding gender inequalities that require complex tools to capture them and fight them. New materialisms and other feminist epistemologies open the floor for the exploration of the complex imbrications of the political with/in material conditions and for distinct understandings of the entanglement of matter, bodies and emotions and how they affect and are affected by our being in the world. Linear models of causation seem no longer useful for the analysis of power and its complex interactions.

Capitalism found in emotions a central node to reproduce itself in unnoticed forms inequality, injustice and, exploitation entangled, and embedded with our bodies. The manipulation of emotions makes some neoliberal policies widely accepted or at least received with a low level of conflicts. At the intersection of two themes - women and emotions in capitalism - problems of daily life in segregated cities, such as obstacles to mobility, in access to employment, to education and the basic infrastructure, become visible, especially concerning the migrant, excluded and/or heads of household women.

This session aims to explore the relations among emotions, bodies and affects considering human/non-human interactions and their possibilities for social critique and for social change towards places of resistance and reciprocity for women who face gender and other injustices.
