Over recent years, work has become more intense in many occupations/professional categories and countries. At the same time, family requirements and family involvement have also often become more complex, with caring for the elderly adding to the challenges of work-family reconciliation related to parenting. While this is observed in many if not most countries, the precise manifestations of these issues and challenges are diverse in the various countries and regions of the globe. The importance of the knowledge society-economy or of the resource-based economy has an impact on the form of manifestation of these challenges related to the articulation of working times, social times, parenting and caring times, and these will also be different according to gender, age, professional category, and possibly also ethno-cultural group, race, nationality and migration. The perspective of intersectionality can thus be added to the many challenges observed in relation with work intensification and family involvement.
For instance, we would welcome proposals on the following subjects amongst others:
-working time and work-life balance in various professional and ethno-cultural groups or regions;
-work intensification and work-life balance from a perspective of gender, age, race or occupation/professional category;
-work-life balance, domestic work and caregiver issues from a perspective of gender, age, race, nationality/migration and professional category;
-work intensification and family involvement: challenges from a perspective of intersectionality;
- public policies and human resources management practices that contribute to mitigate the effects of work intensification and/or to promote a better work-life balance.
