Session Type: Oral

As the impact of modernity and individualism on current religiosities has been widely documented, it has paved way to various perspectives focused on subjectivity all gathered under the umbrella term of «spirituality». The rise of the so-called post-secular age now calls for new insights on these patterns in order to seize the ethics and new moralities that these religious or spiritual views entail in the everydaylife of their practitioners and believers, as well as regarding the collective social and political debates. In this session, we invite authors to discuss the many facets of these emerging moralities, their production, arrangement and influence on the public sphere:

  • How do they negotiate with religious authority and traditions?
  • How do they articulate with collective debates (gender and sexual issues, family and gender models, migration and inclusion of minorities, environmental cause)?
  • How are they are enmeshed with the dominant neoliberal and consumerist paradigm either as a reflection of these features or as a counter-movement, or as a combination of both?
  • How do digital communication technologies shape and participate to the construction and diffusion of these moralities?
