Abstract Submissions Closed

Thursday, 25 February 2021: 10:45-12:15
Location:

TG04 Sociology of Risk and Uncertainty (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

The language of risk reflects and shapes how we think about risk. Therefore social media, the news, public announcements, parliamentary debates and so forth are central for the social production and reproduction of the understanding of risk in the public sphere. This session invites papers which address the way how risk is presented, negotiated and contested and which (social) forces shape the discourses and talk about risk. Papers might refer to common risk approaches such as risk society, governmentality, risk and culture, culture of fear but is also open to other approaches and interdisciplinary work from media studies, discourse studies and corpus linguistics.
