Invited Session

The Keynote session on “Children and Childhood: Democracy, Environment, Inequalities, and/ or Intersectionality” will present discussions on these four broad challenges in terms of existing, current and future challenges for research on and about children and childhood. The intention is to focus on local contexts that deepen and/or contest current and dominant perspectives on these global challenges. In focusing on children and childhood, the session will attempt to engage with some of the 2020 ISA Forum broad questions of how our discipline has been meeting these four global challenges and how it has been transformed by them. What are the contributions of the actors and epistemologies of the South including invisible/underrepresented social groups, areas and geographies? What are the new trends in global sociology that allow innovative analyses of these challenges? What are the main obstacles we face to tackle these problems? How can innovative sociological analyses contribute to grasp and to face our common problems in the Global Age? This session seeks to advance discussions and debates for further and future research, and perhaps foster future research collaborations across and within geo-spatial contexts.
