In the last few decades neoliberal politics have produced a more unequal world even within the boundaries of established democratic Countries, affecting the democratic fiber of these nations, questioning how representation processes have extended or, on the contrary, have been contracted. In recent years populist parties and leaders have arisen in Europe and across the world shifting from mass or at least collective political organizations to individual leaders the focus and milieu of the political representation. We welcome papers that analyze both from an empirical and from a theoretical perspective how these processes are affecting democracies, public discourse and political agendas. Possible issues of interest:
- New forms of political representation and their actual representation capacity
- New political leaders, new political styles
-Old and new democratic processes
- Public discourse: themes, strategies, actors and opinion leaders
- The representation of inequalities (who represents the 99%; how inequalities are represented in public discourse)
