Countries surge towards economic development and the efforts of multi-national companies to generate additional wealth at a rapid pace have led to depletion of natural resources at an alarming rate leading to severe damage to the environment and ecology, global warming and puncture in ozone shield threatening extinction of plant and species. With this backdrop, this Session will focus on:
- The environmental and ecological steps required for protecting wetlands and rivers to ensure the sixth SDG Goal of “availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”.
- In line with Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-30), how can we “substantially reduce global disaster mortality by 2030”.
- In the context of Article 10 of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, how can “technology development and transfer to improve resilience to climate change and to reduce green house emissions” be fully realized.
- How do we implement the New Urban Agenda announced by UN Habitat vide paragraph 65 to protect the environment and ecology of Mountain Cities at high altitudes having fragile eco-systems.
- How can Disaster Mitigation and Resilience of urban settlements located in natural hazards prone areas be enhanced.
- What role can Regional Planning play in bringing about symbiotic growth of urban and rural areas within the framework of SFDRR & COP 21 of Paris.
- Strategies to bring-about more resilient outcomes in mountainous cities by properly assessing the limitations of natural resources and the number of tourists and motorized vehicles they can sustain.
