All over the world, wars, persecutions, tortures, economic crises, and natural disasters are forcing a growing number of people to leave their countries. Many of these people are young refugees who flee their countries with or without their families. Their reality creates new challenges that call for cross-sector integrated answers, where sociology and youth work have a key role in promoting integration, inclusion, and social cohesion.
The session welcomes theoretical and empirical contributions considering the following aspects:
- Challenges related to access to civil, political, and social rights
- Issues of trauma, waiting hood and well-being in young refugees' biographies
- Young refugees’ transitions towards autonomy
- Youth work’s and school's role in promoting the integration of young refugees in host societies
- Intercultural relations between hosting communities and young refugees
- Participation of young refugees in youth organizations and youth projects
- Hate speech, discrimination and hostility towards young refugees
- Specific challenges related to young women and girls.
