RC24 Environment and Society (host committee)

Language: Spanish and English

Session Type: Oral

Across the world, struggles for environmental and social justice are aiming to create greater equality, ecological resilience, and livelihood security. These initiatives at systemic alternatives face enormous challenges from the dominant structures of patriarchy, capitalism, statism and anthropocentrism, yet they show pathways to a radically different world. The session will describe and build on some alternative initiatives from different parts of the world, and draw out frameworks of transformation that they point to. It will also feature a worldwide initiative called the Global Tapestry of Alternatives, which is attempting to weave together such actions and worldviews, and relevant material that forms the basis for a pluriversal approach to the past, present, and future.
