The public and academic interest in the relationship between young people and political participation has developed along with the emergence of youth as a social phenomenon. After decades where the attention was largely given to the problem of youth's withdrawn from formal political arenas, recent research has shown how young people's practices of participation contribute at regenerating politics and reinventing democracy.
The session welcomes theoretical and empirical papers analysing the multifaceted phenomenon of young people's political engagement, considering both conventional and unconventional spaces and styles of participation, also drawing on intergenerational comparisons.
