Session Type: Oral

Most research on the between- and within-gender stratifying impact of parenthood assesses inequalities as if individuals interact directly with the labor market. In reality, gender-class inequalities are configured within and across firms embedded in societal contexts. Workplaces are sites where government equality mandates are implemented and/or monitored. In addition, workplace-specific policies related to hiring, performance evaluation, compensation, and termination further shape gender-class employment and wage inequalities predicted by parenthood. Papers are therefore invited that explore how the gender-class stratifying effects of parenthood are configured within and across organizational and/or policy contexts. Particularly welcome is research using administrative or register panel data of workers nested within workplaces. The session contributes to understanding how group inequalities associated with family are configured at multiple levels.
