Language: Spanish and English

Session Type: Oral

Race and ethnicity are often important markers of social stratification in Latin American countries. However, few studies analyze systematically the association between racial/ethnic characteristics and social stratification outcomes such as educational attainment, class destinations and wealth. The aim of this session is to stimulate debate regarding the association between race, ethnicity and other forms of social stratification in contemporary Latin American countries. We invite empirical papers, with a national or cross-national scope, that focus on the current role of race/ethnicity in the process of social stratification, the effects of race/ethnicity on intergenerational social mobility, as well as on the intersectionalities between race/ethnicity, class and gender as interrelated dimensions of social inequality.
