Small local towns and rural settlements in Eastern and Southern Europe are currently undergoing dramatic changes. In out-of-town spaces, there is a visible reduction in the zones of social and economic activity, many villages and rural communities are depopulated, and depopulation processes are increasing. Many small local towns in the earlier-developed areasĀ - including those with rich cultural and historical traditions - lose their population, reduce the spheres of social and cultural activity, find it difficult to find ways out of the state of social stagnation. Sometimes the question arises: "What's next?"
The session is focused on the analysis of the current state and prospects for further transformations of small local towns and rural settlements, on prospects that can break the circle of socio-economic stagnation and demonstrate alternative models of progressive development.
