Session Type: Oral

After migration, immigrants can either opt for employment or invest into host-country specific human capital. Despite potentially beneficial returns to such investments, only few decide to (re-)enter the educational system in the host country. In this session, we call for empirical research that addresses the question why immigrants are less likely to invest in human capital after immigration. Moreover, our call is open for additional investment strategies, e.g. formal recognition of foreign credentials. Given that differences in investment behavior can shape social inequality within the immigrant group, the aim is to gain a deeper understanding of investments decisions of immigrants.
