Part I: The Challenging Power of Culture and Creativity for Local Inclusive Development.
Rising inequalities, environmental degradation and structural unemployment make us to reconsider present development paradigms and seek alternate and innovative community-based approaches in order to enhance sustainability. The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda presents 17 Sustainable Development Goals geared toward rebalancing the three pillars of sustainable development by ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring prosperity for all.
The Session invites papers which address policy options for local government that assess present models of deliberative democracy, aiming at participation models for the new commons, while understanding the role of culture in the formation of social capital. A culture of participation and empowerment is a core precondition for meeting the challenges of the 21st Century.
Part II: Historical Memory as a Formation Factor of Social Cohesion in Small/Local Communities
Historical memory can and should be understood as a kind of cumulative social discourse, consisting of various kinds of concepts and representations of the past, filled with public and personal emotions and including retrospective reflections about the “lived and experienced” generations.
The Session invites papers that examine various aspects of the impact of historical memory on strengthening solidarity in small communities (small cities, rural settlements), analyzes ways to enhance cohesion based on the perception, knowledge and experience of “places of memory” in historical locations in Southern and Eastern Europe, as part of movements to restore historical monuments and manors as well as in the context of tourism.
