Can the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) respond to the crisis of digitalization of work at a time when more people need employment, inequalities are higher and significant socio-technical changes impacting on the environment are reducing viable work opportunities? The SSE comprises a diverse and heterogeneous universe of organizational models and approaches, the main actors within the SSE share a set of common features that make them best suited to take on some of the key issues related to the future of work. While digitalization of the work process might alter traditional sectors of the economy many services to the community / or to communities are growing like personal services aiming at inclusion of marginals in a transition from informal to formal employment in culture, health, tourism, transport. In this context, significant attention is being paid to the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) as a viable option to help address some of these challenges.
