Location:
RC56 Historical Sociology (host committee)
Language: English
Session Type: Oral
The session deals with the special issue of Historical Social Research, with the title “Emotion, Authority and National Character: Historical–Processual Perspectives” which will be published end of 2019. The core idea of this session is to have a critical review by experts on the matter (following the format authors meets critics). Above all, authors should have the possibility to present their publications. The book contains the contributions of authors from twelve different countries. On the level of theory, each author is trying to clarify the value of what Norbert Elias called ”national habitus”. In which way does such a habitus correlate with identity politics or with the long-term process of state-formation? On a thematic level, the special issue focusses on the question of contemporary nationalism which spreads all over the world and uncovers the fragility of liberal democracy. There will be contributions about the BREXIT and the English situation, about Ireland, the Polish nationalism and catholicism, Hungarian authoritarianism, Turkish warrior cults, Greek identity politics, Iranian state-building processes, Israeli-German relationships, Danish national mythologies, German-Austrian ethno-nationalism etc.
