The objective of this session is to present some of the most significant and controversial aspects of development in Latin America. Through the papers selected, we will tackle topics such as political violence and rural movements in Brazil, agrarian conflict and drug trafficking in Mexico (Tierra Caliente and Costa de Michoacán), and social consequences of the agribusiness corporations in Paraguay. At this meeting, we will address macrosocial and historical issues such as democratization processes and social inequality in South-America, and capitalism in Argentina and Brazil. We will also analyse the impact of public policies and education in the geoadministrative region of Paraíba (Brazil), and the relationship between media and development in Brazil.
