TG04 Sociology of Risk and Uncertainty (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

Failure of climate change adaptation and mitigation is indicated as one of the major global risks in the Global Risk report by World Economic Forum in 2019. Yet, there are countries in the world, with high level of denial and low levels of climate activism. This session will address the question of climate change risk perception and readiness to act in the face of ignorance and inaction. This session aims at exploring the factors behind diversities of climate change risk perceptions across regions, countries or social groups and understanding of linkages between risk perceptions, climate activism and exposure to complex vulnerabilities. Papers including international comparative perspectives on social responses to climate change risks are encouraged, but also papers addressing structural and cultural factors of climate change risk perceptions and climate activism are welcome.
