Location:

RC29 Deviance and Social Control (host committee)

Language: English

Session Type: Oral

While deviancy theory has often focused on violence from the margins to the centre, feminist analysis more often understands violence as from the powerful to the disadvantaged. What are the implications of the investigation of femicide and other forms of gender-based violence for deviancy theory and sociological theory. What are the causal pathways connecting gender-based violence to social inequalities? What interventions are successful and how are they to be theorised? And what kind of problems confront researches when collecting data on gender violence? This panels is proposed by the emerging group on ‘violence and society’ and also welcomes papers from RC29 members.

This session will welcome papers on gender based violence.
