Issues of power are an important part of youth research. Researchers have also long taken care to when it came to issues of representation of young people. Issues of power in youth research go beyond the power relations between youth as the target group of the research and the adults as researchers. Youth research has long aimed to give a voice to young people, to advocate for their rights, and to enhance their status. Furthermore, intersections of gender, race, and class are all issues that affect the process of research, representation of youth in research and the effects and outcomes of research. On a macro level globalization, colonization, and the centralization and distribution of resources and knowledge are other aspects that affects the direction and location of power in research. This session therefore invites papers that explore power in youth research and that focus on: (1) Knowledge production and how it affects the relation between the North and the Global south, and ways in which exchange of knowledge can go both ways, and (2) the intersectionality of gender, race, and class in the deconstruction and reconstruction of knowledge in research.
