Environmental Justice once was a radical concept opposing existing research frames. Over a period of the last three decades, its 'radical reformism' (Herbert Marcuse) faded into arbitrariness coining concepts like 'climate justice' that often are rather specifying the policy frame of climate change politics. There are still approaches floating around a loose paradigm for research that is orientation for critical research. This session will provide the floor for such critical research in the field of a sociology beyond "as if nature did not matter" (Murphy). Understanding "environment" as social construction of reality and justice as a contested concept between a theory of justice (Rawls, Nussbaum) and a variety of elements (Schmidtz), considering the part concept of 'environmental racism' to be replaced by 'environmental intersectionality', this session aims to clarify (even define) an environmental justice research paradigm in opposite to techocratic and accommodative analyses of environmental phenomena (http://environmentaljustice.de/research.php).
