Language: Spanish, French and English
Session Type: Oral
The aim of this session is to articulate and share studies based on renewed perspectives within the sociology (of politics) and collective mobilization, on the transformations and innovations in the repertoires of collective action during the last decades, specially concerning the use of social networks and digital media. We propose to analyze the singularities and affinities between conventional and unconventional collective forms of action from a renewed perspective of analysis dealing with processes of international circulation, dissemination and adoption of some of these repertoires of action, as well as of the groups and militants using them. The aim is to analyze transnational dynamics of repertoires of action and variations in uses of action repertoires in relation to political learning process, expertise and the development of social, political, educational and professional trajectories of their activists.
Papers may question the specificity of forms of collective action such as roadblocks, sit-in, blockades, camps, occupations, etc. in different countries of Latin America and Europe. Likewise, they will be valued those proposals that address the hybrid types of articulation between different forms of collective action within the same social movement (youth movements, feminists, LGBTI, movements against climate change, among others) as well as the uses of conventional repertories by new actors, for example in the campaign against Climate Change. We encourage proposals based on qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods. Comparative works that combine micro and macro scales, or that rely on national databases on conflicts and action repertoires, will also be welcome.
