Session Type: Oral

Invited Session

This session will engage with the topics presented in the Presidential Round table on silences in youth sociology, and offer critique and analysis of the issues raised as silences, as well as provide some challenging insights into future directions for the sociology of youth.  Invited panelists will comprise senior scholars as well as new voices. Invited speakers will  engage with each other as scholars from the North and South, to challenge assumed universals from Northern scholars, and make efforts to centre Southern theory, not just for the South, but for us all. It is envisaged that this session will be both empirical and theoretical, help us to deepen our reflection on methodologies, showcase theories that remain uncirculated; map out research agendas and theoretical lacunae; contrast what is available with what is needed; and open up new avenues for reflection and research.
