Session Type: Oral

In order to understand the dynamics of the social organization in the XXIst century, social sciences need to re-think and discuss the role of emotions in general, and love in particular, as pivotal for a comprehensive analysis of our world today.

Being subject of depredation, social bearability mechanisms and sensibilities’ regulations, Global South societies are more and more normalized on consumption. However, what may seem to be individual solutions are taking new social perspectives. Catastrophic future images amplify the signs of hopelessness valuing the perspectives of a “Slow Science” (Stengers, 2015).

In this sense, love, emotions and reciprocity are other ways to think relationships. This set of interstitial practicies denies the truth regime of the political economy of morality. So, it is vital to understand how the system's logic based on individuality and competition is being put under siege by such practices.

From sociology of bodies/emotions, we articulate a theoretical scheme that see these practices as key to the understanding of society. In this session, we aim at raising these issues, along with a broad discussion from diverse points of views and perspectives.

We welcome then all types of research and experiences that questions, analyses, and/or reflects on love as a social practice, that may at least "pause" the contemporary neo colonial domination.
