Session Type: Oral
Corporations have experienced significant transformation from the traditional model to the contemporary modus operandi in the era of the 21st Century. The role of corporate governance in modern corporations is related to social welfare goals. An ethical corporate culture based on integrity, respect, equality and transparency is considered a requisite for the well-being of all stakeholders and shareholders. This can be compared to the role of ethical principles in local governance and democratic community engagement. This session invites papers on both private and public dimensions of organizational democracy and stakeholder involvement.
Corporate governance could create an ethical environment for all interested parties. But is ethical conduct in the organizational culture, with respect for the principles of democracy, an essential part of corporate core values? Is corporate democracy a new model of the modern corporation, embracing ethical governance principles that are associated with democratic principles? Is an ethical corporate structure an important element of organizational democracy? Does corporate ethical governance culture foster self-management in the workplace and encourage subordinates' participation and commitment? Or can it become a new form of neopaternalism? How does it compare with public local participatory systems of management with active stakeholder engagement? How can democratic organizational principles in ethical corporate and public governance be fostered and improved? These are some of the questions invited for discussion in this session.
