Social Construction of Masculinities. Gender Mandates, Their Effects and Transformations

This paper takes up the social construction of masculinities from tghe perspective of geneder.

Varyng mand ates of gender are analyzed, as well as the consequences which their fulfilment has on those involved, persons, familiesm and siciety as large.

In this context, the practices of masculinity in Mexico is examined, together with the changes it has undergone within the economic and social enviroment, particulary under neoliberal social policies.

These changes have an effect, both in the relationships between genders, and in the social representations of the respective genders, However, it is understood that these social transformations are not homogenous, nor are their effects.
