Oral Presentation
In Romania, the integration of health sociology into the curricula of healthcare professionals remains an underexplored yet essential component of medical education. This paper addresses the critical role that health sociology plays in shaping the understanding of social determinants of health, patient behavior, and the broader healthcare system among future professionals. Drawing on both theoretical frameworks and practical case studies, the presentation will explore the current state of health sociology education in Romania, identifying key challenges such as limited institutional focus, insufficient interdisciplinary collaboration, and a lack of tailored pedagogical approaches. At the same time, the paper highlights opportunities for improvement, including the potential to enhance patient care by fostering a deeper understanding of the social context of health and illness. By integrating sociological perspectives into healthcare education, professionals can develop a more holistic view of patient care, addressing not only medical symptoms but also the social factors that influence health outcomes. This presentation aims to spark dialogue around best practices and strategies for effectively teaching health sociology to healthcare professionals in Romania, ultimately contributing to more socially aware and empathetic healthcare delivery.
