"Globalization and Its Impact on Indian Society"

Globalization refers of citizens and nations across the world. Globalization represents the global integration, information technology and cultures. The process of globalization has affected Indian society severely and differently in social, economic, cultural and other fields. In social term, globalization has greater interconnectedness among global population. Culturally, globalization shows the exchange of ideas, values among cultures and development of world culture, spread of pop culture across borders to increase the exchange of ideas, art, language and music etc. Standards of living have raised overall third world countries experience. The present micro study is based on 100 families in Varanasi city of Uttar Pradesh, India. Data have been collected from primary and secondary sources.
The main objectives are : (1) to find out the socio-economic profile of the respondents of the urban families. (2) What are the impact of globalization on Indian Culture? (3) Is there any change in standards of living, values, ideas, attitudes by globalization? It has been found that globalization helped free flow of population from one place to another resulting in the formation of hybrid culture. Hi and Hey are employed to welcome people in place of namaskar/namaste. Valentine day relationship is spreading. Burger, pizza, chinese food varieties are commonly used. Women's red bindi, sindoor, saree, suit are becoming less and pant, similar skirts are seen among Indian young women. A homogenized world culture dominated by consumer oriented values. Widening gap between rich and poor and increasing wealth of local elite are seen.
