Investigating the Social Factors Affecting the Tendency Towards Democratic Values Among the Citizens of Vasit Province، Iraq

Problem Statement: The current study intends to investigate the social factors affecting the tendency towards democratic values among the citizens of Wasit province of Iraq.

Research question: Considering the importance of the issue, this question has been asked, which social factors are effective on the tendency towards democratic values among the citizens of Wasit province of Iraq?

Theoretical foundations: According to Bourdieu, social capital is manifested through benefits from social networks, however, the source of social capital originates from social, economic and cultural structures that create different power and status for certain individuals. Power and position create self-evident assumptions such as social norms, which in turn create advantages. In the current research, ethnic, tribal and nomadic relations and the place-oriented, clan-oriented, and tribe-oriented socio-political model governing socio-political relations have been considered as manifestations of social capital.

Research method: The current research is an applied and descriptive-analytical study that was carried out in a quantitative paradigm and a survey method. The statistical population including all the citizens of Wasit province is estimated to be 1,415,034 people and the sample size is 600 people.

Research results: According to the research, the country of Iraq has faced its own challenges for the establishment of democracy and the creation of a democratic government, and in different provinces of this country, ethnic, tribal and nomadic relations are still strong as before and play an important role in the process of socialization of citizens as well as various social actions. , they play a cultural and political role. Therefore, the place-oriented, clan-oriented, and tribe-oriented socio-political model dominates its socio-political relations. Wasit province also has an important role in political decisions and political activities and social and political relations of citizens due to the existence of two ethnicities, Kurdish and Arab - ethnic relations, Ili and tribe-oriented.
