Minors in Migration: Fundamental Principles and Rights Violations in Europe

Monday, 7 July 2025: 10:00
Location: FSE015 (Faculty of Education Sciences (FSE))
Oral Presentation
Letizia MANCINI, University of Milan (Italy), Italy
The intervention focuses on the obstacles to the recognition and enjoyment of rights of unaccompanied minors arriving in Europe, mainly from the African continent.
In the face of a universal fundamental principle - the best interests of the child - which should guide European policies, legislation and practices on reception, integration and transition to adulthood seem increasingly inspired by the exclusive principles of migration policies. With regard to Italy, I will present data and cases from the work carried out with unaccompanied minors by the Human Rights and Social Vulnerability Law Clinic, of which I am the coordinator, in collaboration with Save the Children.
