Oral Presentation
This research explores the formation and dynamics of Chinese feminist digital activism under the influence of neoliberalism, using the concept of Learning as Resistance. Neoliberalism, characterized by individualism and market-driven ideologies, creates gender inequalities that feminist activists in China resist through collective learning on digital platforms like Weibo and WeChat. This study will investigate how feminist communities form, use learning as a tool of resistance, and develop cohesion around key topics like sexual harassment, labor rights, and gender violence. Additionally, it will analyze how activists navigate tensions between neoliberal individualism and feminist solidarity, as well as the challenges posed by state censorship. Through online ethnography, interviews, and content analysis, this research aims to contribute to the understanding of feminist activism in an authoritarian, neoliberal context.
