IE and Theory – a Perspective from the Nordic Region

The role of theory in IE is a matter for some controversy. Albeit insisting on developing sociology from within people’s lived experience, it would be a misunderstanding to perceive of IE as “non-theoretical”. The question at stake is rather whether – and how – IE can be combined with other theoretical perspectives to become more relevant within sociology at large. In this presentation, I present issues and controversies about the role of theory in IE research which has emerged within the Nordic region.
