Oral Presentation
This study aims to analyze social perceptions of science in Spain, focusing on the future images that people project about the role of science and technology. Using a nationally representative survey, we examine whether science is perceived as a driver of a utopian future, capable of solving problems, or as part of a dystopian scenario filled with risks. We employ a structural equation model to evaluate how these future perceptions interact with key factors such as trust in science, risk perception, conspiracy beliefs, and anti-scientific attitudes. The results reveal a general trend towards optimistic views, with science seen as a solution to contemporary issues. Trust in science emerges as a strong predictor of utopian attitudes, while risk perception, conspiracy beliefs, and anti-scientific attitudes are associated with more pessimistic perspectives.
