Life Trajectories of Trans Women from the State of Minas Gerais/Brazil
This work addresses discussions from the decolonial feminist movement as well as the transfeminist current. The study aims to produce a collective biography of trans women from the state of Minas Gerais/Brazil. The data gathering method consists of oral history, using a structured interview guide. Twelve trans women were interviewed. The data was analyzed throughout the content analysis method, and lead to the following categories: family of origin, childhood, religiosity, education, professional trajectory, relationships, health, social movements. The narratives are characterized by expressions of fear and uncertainty from the interviewees at the beginning of their gender transition.
The majority of the interviewees report experiencing some form of prejudice and/or discrimination in healthcare settings, struggling to have their specific needs addressed. There are also several accounts of difficulties in regard to their insertion and inclusion in the labor market. Childhood is marked by initial questions and dissatisfaction regarding gender, with this feeling becoming more pronounced during adolescence.
The behavior of close family members is a significant marker in the trajectories of trans women. In groups where there is acceptance and family support, narratives indicate more positive
e experiences, with shared doubts and support in decision-making. Conversely, the narratives reveal situations of violence, family estrangement, and even the rupture of familial ties. The construction of this work seeks to highlight the uniqueness and originality of the interviewed woman in their individual spheres, as well as the common elements that shape their shared reality.
