Neoliberal Think Tanks, Economic and Political Elites in Latin America

This paper analyses Latinamerican think tanks with a neoliberal orientation and their influence in the region’s policy making, economic and political elites. It is structured in three sections

1) The definition of the concept, the theoretical perspectives and the types of neoliberal think tanks in Latin America

2) The sample: 14 think tanks selected from the top international ranking and specialized literature in Argentina, Chile, México, Perú and Uruguay.

3) An empirical analysis of the 14 cases organized according to the following criteria: (a) date and context of creation and main actions undertaken; (b) ideological orientation and links with transnational rightwing networks; (c) relationships with economic and business elites; (d) links with political elites, public officials, state agencies, parties and politics

According to the way they influence the political agenda, we classify the cases in: a) technocratic, b) doctrinaire, and c) party affiliated
