Linguistic Devices That Jesus Used to Structure Arguments; A Pragma Dialectical Approach

Abstract
Communicating with a great deal of persuasion is a skill everyone would desire to possess. Scholars regards Jesus as a philosopher, persuasive and great speaker, (Douglas, 2015; Costache, 2017; Petersen & Kooten, 2017) on this account this study takes an interest in his public discourses and dialogues and seeks to explore the linguistic devices that Jesus used to structure his arguments. The study will employ a pragma-dialectical argumentation theory (Van Eemeren, 2018;Van Eemeren & Grootendorst, 2004), which will be complemented by appraisal theory (Martin & White, 2005). Although findings are yet to be obtained, by identifying Linguistic Devices that Jesus Used to Structure his Arguments the research hopes to shed more light on linguistic critical discourse studies, religious discourse studies, Argumentation theory, communication skills and public speaking fields.
