Political Communication in Digital Era: Main Theories

This article aims to approach changes that classical models of political communication have undertaken, in the context of the current technological revolution. In fact, the new technological environment has produced new forms of expression and action within the confines of dominant digital networks. In this context, many researches have attempted to establish a relevant and deep theoretical foundation to understand the virtual reality that has dominated different aspects of our lives.

This article presents a selection of the most prominent theories related to political communication in light of the abundance of digital contents, individual involvement in digital spaces and virtual communication. This includes important matrix of theories of voice, the roles of actors, theories of extension between the classical and digital media system, hybridity theory and other perspectives related to the audience. Through this presentation, we examine the political communication with its actors and influences in the digital era.
